LOVE! I'm so glad you shared this so we could see the whole of this magnificent book. And I'm really moved by what you've written here about permission, support, and safety. I don't think I'd fully considered how freeing, how validating it would feel to be encouraged to follow those weird, niche ideas we so often dismiss.
Oh Rebecca, this is wonderful! My cheeks feel stretched tight from all the smiling I did while reading of your adventures with Nim. Both you and he are such a delight. I hope we are given occasional updates on him as spring arrives.
As soon as he emerges from the fridge I'll alert the heralds! And as a proud tortoise mother, I'm thrilled that you think he's a delight. He's extremely grumpy, but he's mine.
Rebecca, I listened first, and then watched and listened. Enjoyed immensely Nimrod’s story and his adventures. ❤️ I was a bit panicked when he’d gone on a walk about and was MIA for a few days. I didn’t know that 🐢 required nail trims - makes sense. Nim is much more compliant than my doggo - great histrionics.
Do you think that Nim dreams while he hibernates? Maybe planning the next installment!
I think he dreams - in fact, strictly speaking he brumates, which means he shifts around and isn't totally zonked out - so I reckon he has something between day dreams and full dreams. Probably involving lady tortoises and mountains of dandelions.
What a joy this telling of the story of Nim is! Thank you Rebecca--animal friend art is an act of love and I'm all for it!
I have no skills for animal art, but a bit like with my child, I take photos of my dog to gaze at while they're causing havoc in the next room.
Lovely story and narration! My mind is blown that he overwinters in your fridge!! 🐢

Him scuttling in the fridge while I was on the couch was one of the most surreal moments
